Let's help Guinness make St. Patrick's Day an official holiday in the United States!!

This will be my first St. Paddy's I can celebrate right, so I'm pumped! :D If you're as pumped as I am go sign the petition - help us Irish Americans have an official day to celebrate our heritage (you don't have to be American for your signature to count!).

Happy St. Patrick's Day and Sláinte! :shamrock:

Technically, the ';proper' way to celebrate st.Pats is to go to mass with your Shamrock/badge and break lent in an obnoxious manner. Which, really is where the whole "drinking yourself into oblivion" thing came from  And for those who dislike alcohol tradition dictates that you insert the vice of your choice.
we're getting the Irish simpsons premiere. Yay!!!

I'm not catholic, so I've never heard of 'breaking lent.' Is it kind of like the idea of Mardi Gras - party all you want for that one day? :)

I always state the obvious... And therefore I'm always right =p

The idea is that you give up some vice e.g. chocolate, alcohol for forty days (until easter obv) but the Irish MUST celebrate st.Pats so you take a break and indulge. i.e. like you said. Party all you want and since you've been good you party extra hard ;) The world appreciates the ';party hard' concept and joins in. With gusto. Don't forget to wear green (unless there's someone you want to pinch you)
